Eastern Madera County 2023 Winter Storm Fire Hazard Mitigation (5GA21213)
Start Date: 7/18/2023
Finish Date: 3/15/2026
Partner: CAL FIRE
Funder: CAL FIRE
Purpose: Provide hazardous fuel reduction and defensible space clearing of storm-related wood debris on properties of at-risk, disenfranchised, underserved, and low-income residents who may be otherwise unable to complete fire-resilient landscape projects without this support.
Current Activity: The Eastern Madera County 2023 Winter Storm Fire Hazard Mitigation project has been funding hazardous fuel reduction and defensible space clearing as of August 2023 to private landowners in Madera County. The map below shows points of hazard mitigation groundwork that were performed by our contractor, the American Tree Medics, for 2023. This project expects to protect up to a minimum of 127 habitable structures in eastern Madera County. We're currently spreading the word on funding for cleanup services and receiving applicants for tree clearance.
As of January 1, 2024, 76 applications were received and we have served 39 of those applicants. Due to unpredictable weather, the contractor and Y/S RC&DC have elected to pause work during winter. To apply for the program, click on the link to access the application: EMadCoFireWork (jotform.com).
Update 10/29/24: The contractor promoted the project with the CRCD Eastern Madera County Defensible space work. All invoices are paid. ATM has restarted scheduling and work on properties. The requested advance has been received.
