The
Yosemite/Sequoia RC&D is currently working on several educational
projects. The focus is on sharing information about natural resource
and community development issues that are relevant to foothill
and mountain communities in Mariposa, Madera, Fresno and Tulare
counties.
We assisted with the development and distribution
of educational brochures that were sent to residents in Mariposa
and eastern Madera counties. Topics included fire hazard reduction,
septic systems, erosion control, noxious weeds, water conservation,
and where to go for more information.
In coordination with the Hwy 168 Fire Safe Council,
we recently revised and distributed similar brochures to residents
in Fresno and Tulare Counties.
We have just begun working on informational materials
for new property owners in our area. Topics will include those
listed above, as well as others that are relevant to living in
our rural area. Materials will include pamphlets and CD's to
be distributed through local realtors and community organizations,
and movie slides to be shown at local theaters.
Through educational efforts, we hope to increase knowledge of
natural resource management and economic development issues for
local citizens, legislators, students, visitors to our area,
and land managers; and to promote interest and community involvement
in important local issues.
