Assisted several partners (RCD's,
Counties, Tribal Governments, Fire Safe Councils, Watershed Councils,
Non-profits, Visitors Bureaus, and others) with project development,
grant applications and letters of support; and with formation
of councils.. Helped many to gain funding for projects.
Hosted the Biomass for Energy
and a Better Environment Conference, with assistance
from the Department of Energy, Ore-Cal and Central Sacramento
Valley RC&D's and the California Association of RC&D's.
Worked with the Highway 168 Fire Safe Council to
revise the Central Sierra Watershed Committee brochure with information
about water conservation, fire safety, erosion control; and distributed
it to residents in Fresno and Tulare counties.
Received contributions of 150 computers
from the Forest Service. Distributed them to partners to assist
with Natural Resource and Economic Development projects.
Hosted Local Livestock Marketing Opportunities
sessions in Mariposa, Madera and Fresno Counties with the assistance
of the High Sierra RC&D. We are bringing producers together
to identify their interests and determine the potential for our
area.
Provided comments on several proposed
natural resource management projects, as well as letters of support
for projects that would provide for sound resource management
and support for our rural area.
Provided input to legislators regarding
support for biomass utilization legislation efforts.
Helped to put the play “ON FIRE!” on
for local residents and visitors. This play dramatically portrays
the evolution of fire suppression and land management issues
over the last 100 years, the reasons we are now at serious risk
of catastrophic wildfires, and encourages the audience to get
involved in fuels reduction efforts. |
